As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to investing in our farm management across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Hatchery Manager to join our team, based at our Ower Hatchery site, in Romsey.
What will you be doing as a Hatchery Manager at Avara?
As a Hatchery Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing the day-to-day hatchery activities essential for an operational facility that hatches a high volume of chicks per week.
This role requires you to live on site, however free on- site accommodation is available to you (and your family) to support with out of hours or on call support needed at the hatchery. More details will be discussed with you at interview stage.
What will your key responsibilities as a Hatchery Manager include?
- Overall leadership and management of the Hatchery team, ensuring the team are supported, coached and developed to ensure an effective operation in line with our values.
- Ensure that the Health and Safety Policies, Standard Operating Procedures are properly managed and adhered to at all times.
- Ensure that food safety, integrity, legality and quality is applied at all times and in all areas of our business.
- Ensure biosecurity processes and procedures are adhered to (where appropriate) to protect birds from disease and maintain food safety.
- Ensure that the training and development needs of staff are identified and addressed and contribute generally to the development of an overall learning culture within the company.
- Ensure that delivery of agreed SLA standards is maintained where appropriate.
- Participate as necessary in appropriate shifts and on-call duty Rota, if applicable.
What you’ll need to be successful as a Hatchery Manager:
• Own Transport Essential
• Proven leadership qualities.
• Management experience in a production environment.
• Commitment, drive with a passion to be the best.
• NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) in Management.
• A dedicated commitment to chick welfare, people safety and product quality.
• The ability to influence, coach, mentor and develop
• An understanding of budgetary processes & cost analysis.
• Experience of production and supply chain planning.
• Understanding of Health & Safety. (IOSH/NEBOSH).
