A placement year is a paid, 12-month period of employment during the middle of your university studies (often within the third or fourth year of your degree course) which gives students a chance to gain new skills and experience within the industry they would like to work within long term, after they have graduated. Often called a ‘year in industry’, it’s a great way to learn on the job, work on projects and give your career a head start. As an Engineering placement student, you’ll be given engineering responsibility within an area of the operational environment, as the Asset Manager, monitoring downtime, organising Planned Maintenance, gathering data to analyse trends, conducting RCAs and FMEAs which will drive continuous improvement and reliability initiatives. You’ll have the opportunity to manage projects (under guidance) to solve operational problems and have an impact on operational performance within a FMCG environment.
You’ll be mentored in identifying needs, planning solutions, sourcing funding/resources, tendering and delivering as well as developing the training and technical documentation. This role won’t just expose you to real life engineering in an exciting sector, but it’ll also provide the opportunity to learn, grow and lay the building blocks for the bright career ahead of you!
As an Agriculture placement student, you’ll support our Farm Managers in ensuring the efficient operation of the farm. Reporting to the Farm Manager, you’ll be supporting with all aspects of the day to day running of one of the company’s farms to ensure it is managed to company and legislative standards within designated time frames and budget.
You’ll also help with maintaining the health and welfare of livestock and ensuring the highest possible standards of animal welfare. At Avara, we’re passionate about upholding the highest animal welfare standards possible, so we need you to be passionate about it too! Importantly, you’ll also help to make sure compliance is followed at all times, in line with the farm’s Standard Operating Procedures and Health & Safety regulations.
As a Technical placement student, you’ll gain real hands-on experience as you support our technical systems including Quality Management System, Customer Complaints, Customer & Internal Specifications, GMP Audits, Quality Attribute Standards and Departmental KPI updates.
You’ll also be involved in assisting the Product Specifications Co-Ordinator & Production team with both new and existing products (QAS & Specifications), control of the Quality Management System, and the co-ordination of GMP audits, ensuring all areas are regularly assessed to maintain compliance.
