Our advanced manufacturing site in Wednesbury, West Midlands, is our newest advanced manufacturing site, and we’ve invested around £4.7 million into state-of-the-art facilities.

Our Wednesbury site is a flagship Added Value centre for Avara, which employ over 150 talented individuals at the site, who help to supply some of the UK’s largest supermarkets and popular restaurants!

About the Role:

As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to investing in our approach to quality across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Quality Systems Manager to join our Team, based at our Wednesbury site.

The role is predominantly office based, however some time in the factory will also be required. As a Quality Systems Manager you will be working Monday to Friday 08:00-17:00

What will you be doing as a Quality Systems Manager at Avara?

As a Quality Systems Manager, you will help to maintain and champion the company Quality Management System (QMS) to meet Avara Foods, client, and legal requirements. To work with technical teams within Avara manufacturing facilities to ensure that the QMS system is being maintained consistently and to provide metrics to track compliance and performance across the business.

What will your key responsibilities as a Quality Systems Manager include?

  • Ensure that the site adheres to the requirements of the site's Quality Management System and customer codes of practice.
  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day management, review, and development of the facility's food safety, quality, and regulatory systems, including GFSI/BRC facility accreditation criteria and customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain supplier assurance and HACCP systems, ensuring they meet all requirements and are updated as directed by the Technical Manager.
  • Manage an internal audit schedule based on risk assessment and generate accompanying reports, including corrective actions.
  • Schedule internal audits to meet third-party and customer requirements, and verify the completion of corrective actions within agreed timeframes.
  • Perform internal audits against prerequisites to confirm compliance with required standards.
  • Conduct glass, plastic, fabrication, and GMP hygiene audits.
  • Food defense member responsible for conducting risk assessments and horizon scanning communications.
  • Manage controlled documents, including issuing new or amended documents and removing superseded documents from use.
  • Lead the management of change process for procedures and policies.
  • Able to conduct risk assessments and ensure that risk assessments and identified actions are fully documented and reported as appropriate to maintain control and compliance with quality systems.
  • Coordinate with the Technical Manager to maintain and challenge the company management system and crisis manual/procedures, including product recall.
  • Manage and regularly review on-site instruction and coaching of internal auditors, including risk ratings for non-conformances raised.
  • Verify non-conformance records from site visits and audits, ensuring their satisfactory closure and root cause analysis completion.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • HND or Degree equivalent. Degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline, preferably food related.
  • 2 years’ experience of working within a technical role within food manufacturing, preferably fresh sector.
  • Experience in delivering training
  • Food Hygiene qualification (Level 3 or above).
  • HACCP training (Level 4)
  • Allergen Awareness Training
  • Awareness of weights and measures legislation
  • A general understanding of metal detection and metal contaminants
  • Experience of continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment
