As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to investing in our technology across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Despatch Section Manager to join our Production team, based at our site in Scropton.

A fast-paced, dynamic FMCG factory environment which is noisy and refrigerated in some areas, manufacturing short shelf-life products where hygiene standards are critical. 

The role is both factory and office based with core working hours of Monday to Friday 06.00 – 15.00.

What will you be doing as a Despatch Section Manager at Avara?

As a Despatch Section Manager, you will ensure the despatch operation is in control of all production movement both in and out of site. The despatch operation includes the control of product and loose equipment entering and leaving site and as such the despatch team will comprise of factory despatch operatives, yard operatives and site security. It will also be required that controls are in place to manage any external cold stores. You will also forward plan the week looking at potential bottlenecks and setting up methods to navigate the team through these solutions, in addition playing a key role in the planning of the site seasonal activity. Mentor and coach your team towards excellence consistently developing your team in the core values, which will deliver personal and business success.

What will your key responsibilities as a Despatch Section Manager include?

• To effectively manage all operations within the specified sections to ensure KPI’s, targets and business objectives are met.
• To liaise with relevant internal departments to ensure the product is loaded and dispatched in accordance with the ‘Production Plan’.
• To ensure operations are conducted in compliance with customer specifications, whilst meeting cost, quality, productivity and H&S Targets.
• To ensure the adherence to Food Standards legislation throughout the process.
• Implementation of new strategies with the support of senior management
• Supervise quality of product and ensure non-conformances are dealt with in accordance with company policy in a timely and efficient timescale.
• Implement and review continuous improvement initiatives to minimize downtime.
• Ensure consistency in the application of the companies disciplinary, grievance and absence procedures.
• Ensure appraisals and reviews are carried out with staff.
• Continually look to develop staff within the section to ensure that staff are fully utilising their skills.
• Develop and review good working practices, SOP’s and SWP’s in accordance to Avara’s policies.
• To coach and develop staff to improve individual and section performance.
• To ensure the appropriate delegation of tasks within the section.
• To ensure that the staffing levels are within the establishment and that resource is effectively utilised.
• To actively promote a customer focused environment.

What you’ll need to be successful:

• An experienced People Manager or Team Leader with a previous track record of working in a similar environment
• Good IT skills with the ability to learn new systems. Invar/Genesis WMS being highly advantageous.
• Ability to deal effectively with challenging situations.
• Proven people management skills in a diverse and demanding environment
• Excellent communication skills at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
