About the Role:

As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to Engineering across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Engineering Apprentice to be part of the Engineering Team at our site in Scropton, Derbyshire. 

Purpose of the Role

As an Engineering Apprentice you will support the Engineering teams with optimising machinery output and product quality and minimise plant downtime through effective planned maintenance and reactive maintenance activities whilst maintaining a safe and healthy environment and promoting good engineering practice.

What the Apprenticeship entails:

A 4 year, multi-skilled Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship. Delivered at College one day per week alongside on the job development and experience.

Your key responsibilities as an Engineering Apprentice will be:

  • Supporting the Engineering team to ensure that engineering maintenance is carried out in line with the schedule and effective and efficient corrective action is taken.
  • Developing quick and effective response to breakdowns in more than one area of the site. Where possible identifying root causes and suggesting possible improvements to prevent future breakdown.
  • Following good engineering standards and good hygiene practice for the department.
  • Ensuring all activities are carried out within company and legislative health and safety guidelines.
  • Highlighting possible areas of improvement to the Senior Engineers and Engineering Manager.
  • Following communicated escalation routes for unscheduled plant downtime.
  • Demonstrating problem solving techniques to identify root causes of issues.

What we are looking for:

As an Engineering Apprentice we are looking for a driven and ambitious person to join our team. You will have:

  • Numerical and reasoning ability to meet entry level requirements for a technical apprenticeship (Functional skills L2 in Literacy and Numeracy as well as a pass score in Technical Abilities Test)
  • Minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including Maths, English and a science or technical subject.
  • Practical ability to operate within a fast paced, manufacturing environment.
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multi-task and thrive in a busy environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues of all levels.
  • Experience in Engineering is beneficial but not essential.
