Purpose of the Role: 

The Development Manager will develop and successfully launch new products in line with company and customer procedures. As a member of the New Product Development (NPD) team, you will work closely with the Category team, identifying potential new product opportunities and then ensuring that the products developed are creative and financially viable. 

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Working closely with ingredient suppliers to develop and deliver new product concepts in line with customer briefs & managing the development briefs for nominated customers / categories. 
  • Managing all NPD projects through the Avara NPD Process from the point of business approval through to product launch and prioritising your team’s workload to ensure efficiency in delivering the NPD projects within agreed timescales. 
  • Following current food trends and managing the internal and external benchmarking sessions. 
  • Using specific customers NPD Software to ensure key information is completed to agreed deadlines.
  • Generating and then managing Critical paths and ensuring all internal colleagues and customers are on schedule to meet the launch date. 
  •  Managing the maintenance of the NPD facilities, equipment and procedures to ensure a safe environment for the team. 
What we are looking for:
  • An HND/Degree qualification in Food Science or a related subject. 
  • Proven experience in developing and launching new products with retails customers. 
  • Be able to demonstrate good project management skills and experience in preparing and presenting products 
  • Knowledge of the functional characteristics of food ingredients as well as food ingredient legislation and food labelling regulations. 
  •  Working knowledge of HACCP systems and process knowledge of RRD assembly and component manufacture (proteins, sauces, vegetables & carbohydrates).
